Comparison of EPS, XPS and PU

EPS is a kind of thermoplastic and extensible polystyrene. Its advantages are low cost and good thermal insulation, but its flame retardancy is very poor and its bonding performance is general, so it can only be a transitional product.
XPS is also called extruded polystyrene foam board. Its processing technology is to remelt the waste particles of polystyrene. During the process of high temperature and high pressure extrusion, the foaming agent, such as Freon, is injected into it to form a bubble like structure, and also has a certain heat insulation performance. Because this material is the reasonable reuse of polystyrene waste, it is also conducive to environmental protection. Its outstanding advantages are general cost, good waterproof performance, high strength, stable forming, and even as the material of aircraft runway. It has been widely used in the field of external wall insulation in recent years. Its disadvantage is poor bonding performance and general thermal insulation performance.
PU is polyurethane foam, made of Pu sandwich panels is a kind of polymer containing repeated carbamate chain, is one of the most important sub categories of polyurethane, generally in building insulation mainly refers to rigid foam. Polyurethane rigid foam is the best thermal insulation material in the world at present. Its performance indexes are superior to those of traditional XPS and EPS. It not only has good thermal insulation and strong adhesion, but also is convenient for continuous production and beautiful appearance. But the biggest disadvantage is the high cost.
